When
it comes to wood signs we believe that a Sandblasted Sign
is a much better investment than any other wood sign
construction process.
Before sandblasting the cedar sign blank has the lettering and design masked off. Masking is where a rubber like material is placed everywhere the lettering or design will be. This mask is digitally designed and cut out and has a sticky back that temporarily adheres to the flat wood surface. All other areas of the sign have no mask.
Using a sandblasting machine and finely tuned nozzle we blast
away the surrounding background with dry
high
grade sand. This process is perfect for this medium as there are
no problems with corners or crannies and a very high level of
detail can be achieved in the hands of an expert sandblaster.
The high pressure sand simply bounces off the masked rubber area
but erodes everywhere else. This is in many ways an art form as
the exact right depth of blast is difficult to get without a great
deal of experience.
After sandblasting the blank has a 3D effect on all areas masked off as they rise out of the background. Due to cedars unique characteristics sandblasting creates deep ridges in the blasted background. These stable ridges and valleys give the sandblasted sign an amazing depth and beauty.
Routed signs have that same lettering or design beveled into
the surface of the material. This reverse look gives the background
the raised look and typically the background is highlighted to
make the routered area stand out. We definitely believe that this
product is not as effective at highlighting your message as our
sandblasted signs.
